Blog 12 "Numb"

This week I listened to “Numb” by Linkin Park. I grew up on Linkin Park, so this was very nostalgic and probably the most enjoyable blog post I have done. The beginning of the song is very unique and starts with a sampler introduction that quickly progresses into a hard rock with the guitar, bass guitar and piano. The guitar is absent during the beginning verse and only the sampler, piano and drums are heard. Then the DJ scratches the record, and a heavy, almost gloomy sounding background vocal comes in. The sampler is very evident in this song as well, and I think it adds a unique tone overall as it allows for sounds to be used that Linkin Park created. The song gets heavier and feels like a hard rock song about mid-way through with the increase in intensity of the instruments and the lead singer Chester Bennington. Chester’s voice is also unique and a little raspy and sounds raw, especially as he forcefully projects his voice into the microphone during the chorus. I think the lyrics of the song also parallel the progression of intensity in the song. As people become more “numb” it fills their life over time and becomes the only feeling in their life. The music video also adds to the song so go check it out if you want to!

  1. Hi Lauren! I just want to start off by saying I love this song!! It is also one that I grew up hearing, especially from my older brothers. "Numb" is definitely on a few of my playlists, but another one of Linkin Park's songs that I adore is "Crawling." Especially the live version, it's just too beautiful and I love his voice.

  2. This song is honestly really good. When I first started to listen to it to write this comment, some of my roommates started singing along and jamming out because the song has such a good rhythm and a catchy chorus. It has an interesting feel to it too, because of the unique voice that the artist has.
