Blog 8 "Oye Como Va"

This week I listened to Oye Como Va by Santana. To be completely honest the Spanish title intrigued me as I speak Spanish and I enjoy Santana. I have heard this song before, but I had forgotten how few lyrics there are. This song is a very repetitive beat, and the lyrics are very simple, telling you to listen to the rhythm. I liked the elements of Latin America in the song though with the bongos, timbales and drums because the bongo and timbale especially are not typical instruments that you hear in music, but they are popular for other cultures. I also enjoyed the guitar solos as they helped the song have more character. The keyboard sound gives me a 70’s vibe as well and is constant unless the guitar solo is going on. Event though this song is considered Latin Rock I think the beat and instruments give off a dancing vibe that could work especially with cultural dances. This makes sense as the song is in 4/4-time signature which is good for Latin dances. It is also a somewhat relaxed song and would be a good party or background song. Overall, I would recommend this song to anyone as it kind of fits in anywhere in my opinion.
